IT’S been a while since we touched tennis but we’ve stacked up on our research and are confident of a strong showing in Shanghai.
The opening round presents great value and we’ve found a strong pick at great odds in an all German affair.
Mischa Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff last met just over a week ago in Beijing with Zverev coming out a three-set winner (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
Although the result makes it seem as though it was a tight encounter all you have to do is look at Struff’s last month on hard-court to see how significant his struggles are on the surface.
He has lost his last four straight games on the surface and his style clearly struggles on the faster surface. With Shanghai the fastest court on tour it could result in a difficult match up for the 27-year-old.
To add to this, Struff’s record against left-handers doesn’t read particularly well. He has lost his last four straight against lefties and is facing one who clearly favours the faster surface.
Our data is showing a big lean in favour of Zverev in this one and firmly expect him to build on his 2-1 career record against his fellow countryman.
Zverev has also won seven of his last eight when facing off against German opponents and we expect him to add another notch to that belt here.
There’s value in taking the 30-year-old straight up here but we like him to cover the small handicap here as well.
Tip: Mischa Zverev -1.5 games @ $1.90
