AFTER a terrible beat on Day 1 (serving for the match at 5-4 in the third before losing a tie beaker) we look to bounce back tonight.
Here’s our best bets for Day 2:
Leonardo Mayer v Elias Ymer
It’s dangerous taking a short price favourite who isn’t playing on his preferred surface, yet we still have a huge lean on Leo Mayer in this one.
The Argentine made an impressive run at the US Open – knocking out Richard Gasket and Yuchi Sugita before pushing Rafa Nadal to four sets in their Round of 32 clash.
Since then things haven’t necessarily gone well for the veteran, losing to John Isner in China in straight sets and then failing to qualify for Shanghai last week.
That being said he is a capable player, especially Indoors and should get the better of much younger, and much more inexperienced opposite.
Ymer has bowed out in the opening round in four of his last five tournaments, with his only Hard Court since February being appearance being a Challenger tournament last week.
The 21-year-old is 1-3 on Indoor Hard Courts this year with his lone win coming against world no. 257 Sekou Bangor back in January.
Mayer certainly has the better ability on the faster surface and experience will almost certainly trump youth in this one.
Our data has Mayer as a huge favourite, with the $1.55 being over 30c above where we value him in this match up. This is our first two-unit stake on tennis but our projections show a strong lean on the Argentine here.
Tip: Leonardo Mayer @ $1.56 (2 units) & Leonardo Mayer -3.0 @ $1.98 (0.5 units)
