WE’RE rolling with our MLB playoffs tips hitting our last four straight – the only thing running better these playoffs are the Dodgers themselves.
The Cubs face a win-or-go-home situation (again) in the playoffs and will lean on Jake Arrieta to get the job done again for them.
Last season’s hero hasn’t fared particularly well against the dodgers, going 1-3 against them in his career with a 3.77 ERA.
The Dodgers have had no trouble hitting the ball this postseason and with conditions reportedly favouring the hitters we could see another big scoreline from the visitors in this one.
LA will lean on left-hander Alex Wood, who will be making his first appearance as a starter these playoffs.
His last outing against the Cubs however was certainly a memorable one – blanking Chicago’s hitters in five innings pitched en route to victory.
Wood was terrific this season at the mound and his 2.72 ERA on the regular season is certainly a reflection of how well he’s looked.
As mentioned, reports are that the wind in Wrigley Field will favour the hitters, yet we still don’t trust that this Cubs offence can find its rhythm in time here.
As we mentioned yesterday, the Cubs have managed to score more than three runs just once this postseason, and are averaging less than two runs per game these playoffs.
It’s hard to tell how Wood will pitch on his return to the rotation but the value still lies with what has worked for us all playoffs – banking on the Cubs hitters to come up short.
This is as much a value play as anything else but our data still shows the Cubs struggling to score three runs here, with a projection of 2.9 runs. The price and number are too high and so we’ll look to make it five straight winners with a simple option.
