A League preview: Round 3

It’s week three of the new A League season and there’s plenty of value on offer. Here’s our best picks for round three.

Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory

United pulled a rabbit out of the hat last Friday to score a huge win over the Roar.

There’s no doubt that the Reds are a much improved outfit this season and they look destined to return to the finals.

While no one doubts Victory’s title credentials, two losses to open the season is hardly the start Kevin Muscat would have wanted.

Much of the 0-2 start has to do with the slow start by their lead man Besart Berisha.

Berisha is yet to open his account this season despite having some very good chances.

The competition’s all-time leading goalscorer rarely stays down for long and given his side’s early slump he will no doubt take on greater responsibility in this one.

And as stats show, there’s no team Berisha likes to score against more than Adelaide.

Prediction: Berisha to score anytime @ $2.35

Perth v Central Coast

A disappointing opening loss to the Wanderers was somewhat restored last week as the Glory showed a lot of heart to snatch a deserved draw in Newcastle last Saturday.

After two straight away fixtures to open the season, the men in purple will no doubt be pumped to return home and open their wins account for the season.

The Mariners, after an extremely deflating opening defeat to rivals the Jets, showed great resolve to share the points with the Wanderers last week.

There’s no doubt that like Adelaide, the Mariners will improve this season but it’s their inconsistency on the road that will prove their biggest hurdle.

Two goals to Adam Taggert last week will do him a world of confidence and the class of Diego Castro should see the home side through in this one.

Prediction: Perth @ $1.70
