A League Preview: Round 4

It’s another blockbuster round of the A League and we’ve highlighted the best value of the weekend as we look to continue our red hot run.

Sydney FC v Perth Glory

Still unbeaten, and with an FFA Cup final to look forward to, Sydney FC are flying right now. They may not have got the three points in the derby last weekend but Graham Arnold’s side showed tremendous fight to salvage a draw from 2-0 down without marquee winger Adrian Mierzejewski.

Perth got their season up and rolling with a come from behind win over Central Coast at home. The men in purple certainly have the firepower with the likes of Diego Castro, Adam Taggart and Andy Keogh – but defensive lapses are a real concern right now, particularly early on in games.

If last season was anything to go by, Sydney FC absolutely love scoring against Perth, racking up an incredible 18 goals in three matches against the Glory. We’re predicting another high-scoring affair with Brazilan striker Bobo to add to his three goals for the season.

Prediction: Bobo to score anytime @ $1.83

Central Coast v Melbourne Victory

Competition heavyweights, Melbourne Victory are winless after three starts for the first time in their history and to top things off, their talisman Besart Berisha is suspended for the next two matches. Yep, on paper things look pretty dire for the last year’s grand finalists but as we’ve seen countless times in the past – adversity often brings the best out of this club.

Central Coast are also winless to date however, early signs show that Paul Okon’s squad is much more resilient and tough to breakdown than the one who claimed the wooden spoon last season. However, the Mariners lack of experience and poise in the clutch moments has cost them dearly. They have led in all three matches but have conceded four of their nine goals in the final 10 minutes of matches.

Victory may only have one point on the board but facing Sydney FC, Melbourne City and Adelaide in the opening three matches is one hell of a tough start to the season. And quite frankly, they had their chances to win all three.

History shows Melbourne love playing the Mariners winning a whopping 10 of their last 11 clashes. Look for James Troisi to come up big in this one and lead his side to their first win of the year.

Prediction: Melbourne Victory @ $2.10
