A League Preview: Round 6

The action in the A League continues this weekend and as usual we’ve highlighted the best value on offer. Here’s our top picks for Round 6.

Central Coast v Sydney FC

The Sky Blues are absolutely flying right now and you would struggle to find a Sydney supporter who would say the club have played better football in their history than right now. Fresh off their sensational away victory over the high-flying Melbourne City, Graham Arnold’s side is unbeaten in their past 14 A League games and as an added bonus, marquee winger Adrian Mierzejewski returns from injury.

The Mariners are without a win this season but it’s clear that they are a much stronger outfit than the one who took out the wooden spoon in 2016/17. Paul Okon’s chargers are playing some good football in patches but are struggling to convert in the attacking third and have conceded twice as many goals (10) as they have scored this season (5).

Sydney FC have won eight of their past nine matches against the Mariners and they should have way too much fire power in this one as they look to maintain the pace at the top of the ladder.

Prediction: Sydney FC by 2+ goals @ $2.70

Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar

Victory’s winless run this season continues but this weekend they come up against a side who have been statistically worse than them to open the year. The big positive is the inclusion of the A League’s all-time leading goalscorer in Besart Berisha, who returns after serving a two-match ban.

Brisbane is yet to register a win this season but they have fought out two draws in consecutive weeks including a dramatic three-nil comeback against the Wellington back in round four. John Aloisi has added so much needed firepower with former premiership winner Ivan Franjic committing to the Roar. However, he will not be available this weekend.

Victory will be without Mark Milligan, James Troisi and Kosta Barbarouses who are all out on international duty. The Roar are also missing some big names with Corey Brown, Daniel Bowles, Thomas Kristiansen and Shannon Brady all out through injury.

Melbourne is undefeated in its last eight games against the Roar, having won five and drawn three and we’re confident they’ll add to that record at home and grab win number one for the season.

Prediction: Melbourne Victory @ $1.80
