THE Yankees return home facing an 0-2 deficit in their best-of-seven series with the Astros.
While losing the opening two games on the road is not the worst, or most unexpected, outcome things could easily be much different with a bit of extra luck.
It’s the Yankees offence that is letting them down so far this series, and with CC Sabathia ready to take the mound we can expect another strong showing from New York’s pitching staff.
Sabathia has won 13 of his last 16 starts at Yankee Stadium but has struggled in his seven career starts in the ALCS. He is 3-3 with a 5.85 ERA in those starts but has posted strong figures so far this postseason.
Against Houston, he is 2-1 with a 4.45 ERA in three career starts against them – although he didn’t face this year’s version of the Astros.
Houston will counter with Charlie Morton who has a tough act to follow after Just Verlander’s magic show last start.
In his last start, Morton allowed two runs off seven hits in just over four innings at the mound against the Red Sox.
While his season numbers were impressive he hasn’t been terrific against the Yankees. The right-hander is 1-1 in his two starts against the Bronx bombers and owns a 5.68 ERA in that period.
His last start against them came in May when he gave up four runs in five innings – the Astros ran out 10-7 winners that night.
In their three games at home this postseason they’ve managed 16 runs and their hitters are due a breakout game this series.
Our data is showing a strong lean on the Overs, with the last two games between the two at Yankee Stadium seeing a combined 34 runs being scored.
Back against the trend as we look for both sides to break out offensively here.
