WHO could have seen the Astros returning home facing a 3-2 deficit after leaving Houston with a 2-0 lead?
The Yankees continue to find ways to win in the Bronx, but the question now is whether they can close out the series on the road.
Houston will send star recruit Justin Verlander to the mound, and to say his performances have been terrific would be a slight understatement on just how good he’s been.
His last start, in game 2 of this series, saw him pitch a near flawless game – pitching a complete game and allowing just one run while striking out 13 batters.
Since moving to Houston, Verlander has gone 8-0 with a remarkable 1.39 ERA. In the opening two games of this series the Yankees managed just two runs before breaking out the bats in the Bronx.
Whether they can continue to hit out on the road remains to be seen, and whether Luis Severino can match it with arguably the best pitcher this postseason is another question up in the air for New York.
Severino has been a classic case of rocks and diamonds this postseason and it’ll be interesting to see what he produces here.
He allowed just one run in four innings in Game 2 of this series but has seen nerves get the better of him once already in the playoffs.
It’s clear Houston need to do better offensively if they’re to save their season, and having Verlander to lean on at the mound will provide a huge boost for the team’s confidence.
The Astros have won almost 70% of their games this season when priced between $1.60-$1.80 which is where they open for this one. Our data suggest this series will reach Game 7 almost 71% of the time giving us a good lean on the Astros.
