US Open: Day 10 & 11

The action continues to heat up at the final Grand Slam of the year.

Here are our best picks for Day 10 & 11 of the US Open.

Karolina Pliskova v Coco Vandeweghe

Two of the biggest hitters on tour do battle for a place in the semi final.

Both have endured a fairly easy passage to the quarter finals and after four previous encounters the ledger is split at two victories apiece.

Where the players differ is their on-court demeanour. Karolina Pliskova is calm and her body language is the same whether she wins a point or loses a long rally. Coco Vandeweghe is as fiery as they come and her intensity is often what brings out the best in her.

The American has really come a long way this season and we feel her deep run at the Australian Open earlier in the year will really serve her well in this one, and the home crowd will spur her on even further.

Prediction: Vandeweghe +2.5 games @ $1.91

Roger Federer v Juan Martin Del Potro

It’s not often that we see two former US Open winners meet in the quarter final stage but that’s exactly what we have here. In a replay of the 2009 Final, an in-form Del Potro will attempt to something no man has done in 2017 and that’s beat Roger Federer at a grand slam.

Despite two unlikely five set displays in the opening two rounds, Federer has seemingly straightened the ship and produced two text book performances including a three-set demolition of Philip Kohlschreiber.

Del Potro, on the other hand, did it the toughest way possible in his fourth round clash with Dominic Thiem, coming back from two sets to down to progress in a marathon five-setter.

The Argentine is big and powerful but he doesn’t traditionally back up well from five set matches and will no doubt be feeling the effects of his fourth round clash. Federer will no doubt have his eyes on the prize and should physically outlast his opponent.

Prediction: Federer -6 games @ $1.87

Venus Williams v Sloane Stephens

The battle of America in the semi finals will ensure the host nation will get one player into the final.

Sloane Stephens, after a disappointing few years on tour, is playing arguably the best tennis of her career and enjoys a winning record against the evergreen Venus Williams. However, the veteran has been sensational in 2017 and looks determined to add to her haul of grand slams before the curtain comes down on her career.

Stephens will look to take the fight to Williams early and may even jag the first set but as she has shown her whole career, Venus doesn’t quit and we expect that trademark fight to carry her to yet another grand slam final.

Prediction: Williams @ $1.63
