US Open: Day 5

The action in the final Grand Slam of the year heats up as we preview the big clashes out of Day 5 of the US Open.

Denis Shapovalov v Kyle Edmund

Arguably one of the most intriguing matches of the day as young gun Canadian qualifier Denis Shapovalov tackles impressive Brit Kyle Edmund.

Both players are yet to drop a set against quality opposition but Shapovalov’s demolition of Jo Wilfried Tsonga was nothing short of sensational. The Canadian has the ability to overpower Edmund and he proved that at Queens back in June when Shapovalov defeated Edmund on his home patch.

Prediction: Shapovalov -2 games @ $1.75

Diego Schwartzman v Marin Cilic

Despite his short stature, Diego Schwartzman is a tricky opponent for anyone including the big serving Croat, Marin Cilic.

Fortunately for Cilic, he has that unique ability to really step up and perform in Grand Slams and off the back of his final appearance at Wimbledon, he will be feeling very confident of making another deep run here at Flushing Meadows.

Cilic leads the head to head match ups 1-0, courtesy of an easy 2-0 win in Istanbul earlier this year. Schwartzman will toil hard but his inability to win easy point off his serve will hurt him and that should see Cilic coast to victory.

Prediction: Cilic -5.5 @ $1.80
