NRL Round 5: South Sydney Rabbitohs v New Zealand Warriors

THE Rabbitohs will look to bounce back form their first set back of the season when they face the Warriors on the Sunshine Coast.

Points hadn’t been hard to come by prior to that loss to the Sea Eagles but they should be able to get their attack clicking against a Warriors team that’s yet to shower itself in any sort of glory.

In their only trip across the Tasman so far this season, Stephen Kearney’s men gave up 34 points to a Tigers team that’s hardly considered one of the more potent attacks in the competition.

So far this season Wayne Bennett’s Bunnies are averaging 25.0 points per game, with last week’s 13-12 loss the only time this season they’ve been held under 26 points.

A lot of that was down to the Sea Eagles middle of the park being able to stick it to the Rabbitohs forwards and not allowing them to get a roll on in possession to then dictate the pace and allow their outside backs the space and time to create.

To put it simply; the Warriors cannot replicate that blueprint and will have a very tough time trying to slow down South Sydney’s forward in this one.

That being said there is hope for the Kiwi outfit here in that they should be able to put some scoreboard pressure on the “home side”. The Rabbitohs have now missed 75 tackles in their last 160 minutes of footy against the Titans and Sea eagles respectively – hardly a comforting figure given the Warriors ability to offload the footy and look for second phase opportunities.

In the last five meetings between these sides this side of the Tasman, there’s been an average of 48.20 points scored per game. While we have admittedly missed the best number on the total here we still have a good lean on the Overs in what should be a high-paced shootout on the Sunshine Coast.
